FEASIBILITY STUDY FOR THE MASTER PLAN OF THE ILO PORT

General Description

This comprehensive project addresses the expansion and modernization of the Ilo Port Terminal with the objective of transforming it into a reference port on the South Pacific coast, capable of receiving Panamax and large-scale ships, thus boosting Peruvian and regional foreign trade. Project Components: Expansion and Modernization of Docks: The expansion of existing docks and the possible construction of new docks with greater length and mooring capacity are contemplated, including the implementation of Ro-Ro (Roll-on/Roll-off) ramps to facilitate the loading and unloading of vehicles and rolling cargo. Improvement of Draft: The improvement and deepening of the draft in the port accesses and mooring areas are projected to allow the safe entry of large ships, including the capacity to receive Panamax ships and others of similar or larger dimensions. Expansion of the Container Yard: A significant expansion of the container yard will be designed to increase storage capacity and optimize loading and unloading operations, including the implementation of modern technologies for container management. Implementation of Grain Reception Area: The construction of a new specialized area for the reception, storage, and transfer of grains is projected, with efficient unloading and handling systems to serve this type of bulk cargo. New Wave Protection: A new wave protection structure (breakwater or jetty) will be designed and implemented to improve the safety of port operations and reduce exposure to adverse maritime conditions, thus guaranteeing greater port operability. Modernization of Port Equipment: The acquisition of new state-of-the-art equipment is considered, including larger and more capable dock cranes to serve large ships, RTG (Rubber Tired Gantry) yard cranes and Reach Stackers for efficient container handling, as well as equipment for handling bulk and general cargo. Improvement of Service Infrastructure: Improvements and expansions are projected in the land access roads to the port, covered storage areas, administrative buildings, basic services (water, energy, communications), and port security systems. Implementation of Port Management Technologies: The adoption of port management systems (Port Community System - PCS) is considered to optimize planning, operation, and communication among the different actors in the logistics chain. Environmental and Sustainability Considerations: The project will be developed under strict environmental sustainability criteria, including detailed environmental impact studies and the implementation of mitigation and compensation measures. This ambitious expansion and modernization project will position the Ilo Port Terminal as a strategic logistics node in the region, capable of efficiently handling large volumes of cargo and receiving deep-draft ships, significantly contributing to the economic development of southern Peru and facilitating international trade.
